By swen002 - 31.10.2007

Virgin Media is planning to launch 24-hour linear HD channels in 2008, its chief executive Malcolm Wall told trade paper Media Week.

While Virgin Media offers HD content through its VoD service, the only linear HD channel carried by the provider is BBC HD - which doesn't broadcast on a 24-hour schedule.
Said Wall: “We are bandwidth constrained. We have enhanced head ends for HD channels. But
the main focus with HD is VoD and it’s our belief there is an appetite for HD
film. However, we hope to add HD channels on a selective basis.”
