Eurosport HD launches on Sky

A high definition simulcast of Eurosport International has formally launched in the UK.

Eurosport HD is available exclusively as part of the Sky HD subscription service and is listed at 412 on the Sky electronic programme guide.

The channel, which is covering the Tour De France and Beijing Olympic Games in HD, began test broadcasts last week.

Jean Thierry Augustin, Eurosport's manager of distribution and development, said: "Sport, especially live, is spectacular in high definition, it transforms the viewing experience for sports fans and as the leading sports TV channel in Europe it was a natural move for Eurosport to enrich its TV offer with high definition."

Nicola Bamford, Sky director of channels and operations, added: "We’re delighted to welcome yet another high quality channel brand to our leading HD service. The success of Sky+ HD is testament to the quality, depth and range of the HD content available to our customers. Eurosport will only further enhance the choice and experience available to Sky+ HD homes."

The additional of Eurosport HD takes Sky's lineup of linear high definition channels to 19, while its main pay TV rival, Virgin Media, offers one. Sky has indicated it will add several more HD channels this year, with the launch of Sky Real Lives HD expected shortly. swen002
