Sony Direct TV Receiver/recorder provides more than 200 channels on subscription with Direct TV. Doesn’t support HD programming. The integrated Ultimate TV DVR adds to its uniqueness.
Subscription with direcTV makes your receiver activate. For Ultimate TV services you need to subscribe with Ultimate TV. After the both subscriptions Sony direct TV receiver with ultimate TV services allows you to record 35 hours at a time.
If you are keen of Internet features such as World Wide Web, e-mail or interactive TV then you have bought a right receiver. The receiver supports Internet as well. Limited numbers of hours for Internet use are also provided with Ultimate TV subscription.

Upgrades
The features of Sony Direct TV Ultimate Receiver get modified or upgraded with time. Modification can either be done manually or automatically. You can also schedule the upgrades. To get upgrades receiver must be plugged into receive upgrades mode. Upgrades are installed automatically if your receiver is turned off. Watching live TV was never so cool as it is with Sony Direct TV Receiver with Ultimate TV. All the features for TV viewing are in TV home screen. TV home screen shows guide, search TV, My Shows and web home features. Also at the bottom settings, help, purchases and notice buttons.Guide
Select Guide and enter the advanced program guide. The guide allows you to browse through channels. It displays currently running programs and channels. Also the timings and channels of upcoming programs.Channel Customization
You can remove the unwanted channels from program guide. Just go in settings. Select channels and uncheck unwanted channels. You can also create your favorite channel lists.Program Search
Select the search TV and view program guide. This will display categories such as movies, sports or series. Select any one and add channels. Search TV provides option to search the program guide. You can search by name, title or category.Parental Control
Settings window shows locks and limits feature. By this feature you can password protect the programming. You can block a complete channel or limited time programming. You can also associate password with your receiver. You can watch blocked channel on entering password.Auto Tuning
Selecta highlighted program and press info. This provides you the option of auto tuning a channel. Also the TV reminder options. TV reminders are the messages that appear on the screen to remind you about a program. Auto tune automatically tunes to the indicated program.Pay per view
Pay per view programs is associated with all day movie ticket sign. You can watch or record them when on air. To buy a pay per view program press info and select buy. Select purchases from the TV Home screen. Now you can see the list of pay per view items you have purchased.Direct TV Receiver Recording
You can record 35 hours of programming on Sony's Direct TV Receiver with Ultimate service. You can record a current program. Select a program and press record. A red dot indicates recording in progress. You can record an upcoming program. Select a program from program guide. This provides you recording option. You can select recording once or daily basis. Such as series recording can be done on daily basis.You can also record a recorded program to VCR. Hooking up under setting allows this option. All the programs are saved in MY Shows on TV home screen. Watching live TV hit pause. This saves 30 minutes of the show on hard disk. Watch after 30 minutes where you left with play back, forward and instant replays.
Picture In Picture (PIP)
Picture in picture feature allows viewing two programs at a time. Watch one on full screen and other in small window. Just press PIP button on remote or keyboard while viewing in full screen.World Wide Web
When
sign comes during a program it indicates that there is something related to that program on website. The sign 
is indication of an interactive TV website. The site may contain some interactive content related to the program for the user. To surf the worldwide web select Web Home from TV Home window. TV/WEB button on remote takes you to the Internet. Different packages of Internet hours are available at Ultimate TV services.
